Tracking bipolar mood swings with eMoods

Tracking moods is a good way to document illness and recovery in mood disorders like bipolar and major depression.  It creates a real record of your health that’s not influenced by memory.

Do you track your moods?

I only started tracking mine from the near beginning of this year on a mobile app called eMoods. Here’s a look at how the app works:

Everyday you log four different mood parameters; depression, elevated mood (mania or hypomania), irritability and anxiety. Each one is marked either absent or present on a severity scaling 1-3. You can also record the number of hours you sleep.

eMoods also allows you to keep a record of when you’ve taken your medications. You simply add medications and dose you are on then check off yes or no every day whether they’re taken.

There’s also a section for daily notes where I like to record specific events that might influence my mood and which can help identify triggers later.

Here’s a summary graph over one month showing the hours slept at the top then each of the moods individually:

You can also view a 3-month overview of all the mood parameters on one graph:

Do you track your moods? How do you record them and do you find it helpful?

I will definitely have to check that out. I’ve been using Pacifica for the past 6 months or so to track my mood, and I like that each time you do a mood entry you can select from a huge list of different emotions.
